As a kid, I wasn’t particularly excited about Saint Patrick’s Day because we weren’t Irish, and so it wasn’t a big deal in our family. As an adult, though, I absolutely love celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in the New Orleans area! It’s honestly my favorite part of springtime down here. There are tons of activities for the whole family to enjoy and best of all, most of them are free! Let me share with you some fun ways that you can celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in New Orleans in 2024.

St. Patrick’s Day Parades In New Orleans
One of my favorite things about St. Patrick’s Day in New Orleans is the parades! I love catching a month’s worth of produce from a float. Sadly this year Jefferson Parish has new rules that have banned lemons, limes, and potatoes from the parades, and cabbages can only be handed not thrown. There will still be plenty of green beads, moon pies, and fun!
Gretna Irish-Italian Parade
Sunday, March 10, 2024, at NOON. The parade starts at Franklin and Burmaster and ends at Huey P Long Ave and 4th Street. There is an after-party under the Market with live music.
Irish Channel St. Patrick’s Day Parade
Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 1:00 pm. It starts on the corner of Napoleon Ave & Tchoupitoulas.
Italian-American St. Joseph’s Parade
Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 6 pm. It starts at Convention Center Blvd and Girod St. and runs through the French Quarter.
Metairie Road St. Patrick’s Parade
Sunday, March 17, 2024, at NOON. It starts in front of Rummel High School, goes down Severn Avenue to Metairie Road, then Metairie Road. to the parish line.
Louisiana Irish-Italian Parade
Sunday, March 24, 2024, at NOON and follows the traditional Veterans Blvd route but does not turn down Bonnabel.
St. Bernard Irish Italian Islenos Parade
Saturday, April 6, 2024 at NOON and rolls down W. Judge Perez Drive.
St. Patrick’s Day Story Times and Crafts at the Jefferson Parish Library
Get your little leprechauns into a St. Paddy’s Day mood with festive stories and crafty creations! Local libraries have plenty of fun activities to keep kids happy!
Teen Make-and-Take Craft
Stop by the Teen Center at the West Bank Regional Library from 3-4 pm on Monday, March 4th to pick up a lucky headband craft to make at home.
Afternoon Craft: Leprechaun Paper Bag Puppet
Stop by the West Bank Regional Library Children’s Area all day on Sunday, March 10th to make a leprechaun paper bag puppet.
Storytime with Craft: Leprechauns
Songs, storytime, and free play for toddlers and preschools at the North Kenner Library from 10:30-11:30 am on Tuesday, March 12th. Children can listen to How to Catch a Leprechaun and make their own leprechaun.
Family Storytime with Craft: Leprechauns
Children ages 3 and up can listen to The Night Before St. Patrick’s Day and make a pot of gold craft on Tuesday, March 12th from 11 am – NOON at the West Bank Regional Library.
Toddler Storytime: St. Patrick’s Day
Storytime for children ages newborn to 3 years old. Children will listen to There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Clover and make a shamrock suncatcher from 10-10:30 am on Wednesday, March 13th at the Harahan Library.
Read and Sing Storytime: Shamrocking Good Times at Lakeshore
Infants and toddlers will sing songs, listen to You Shameock My World, and make a shamrock wreath from 10:30 – 11 am on Wednesday, March 13th at Lakeshore Library.
Storytime with Craft: St. Patrick’s Day
Children ages 3-7 will listen to Pepa Pig Loves St. Patrick’s Day and make a cereal rainbow from 11:00-11:30 am on Wednesday, March 13th at the Lafitte Library.
Storytime for School-Age Children: St. Patrick’s Day
Children ages 3-11 will listen to Patrick: Paton Saint of Ireland and make a shamrock basket from 4-5 pm on Thursday, March 14th at the Harahan Library.
Saturday Movie Matinee
Your family can watch Darby O’Gill and the Little People at the Live Oak Library on Saturday, March 16, from 2-4 pm.
Afternoon Craft: Popsicle Leprechauns
Children ages 3 and up can make popsicle leprechauns at the West Bank Regional Library all day on Sunday, March 17th.
St. Patrick’s Day Snack
Teens can make a Lucky Charms Snack Mix at the West Bank Regional Library Teen Center from 2-4 pm on Sunday, March 17th.
New Orleans Saint Patrick’s Day Celebrations for Adults
Are you ready to join the festive celebration at one of the biggest street parties of the year and party hard like a true Irishman? Get your game face on for St. Patrick’s Day in New Orleans! Food Fight NOLA
Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on Thursday, March 14th at the Food Fight NOLA festival at the Carousel in Carousel. Doors open at 6 pm for 1st taste and VIP and at 7 pm for general admission and start at $70 per person.
Parasol’s Bar Block Party
Saturday, March 16th from 10 am – 8 pm at 3rd and Constance in the Irish Channel – lots of green beer, food, live music, surprises, and fun!
Tracy’s Block Party
The annual celebration at the end of the Irish Channel (3226 Magazine Street) with lots of green beer, corn beef, and cabbage, and fun on Saturday, March 16th from 11 am – til.
Irish Channel Block Party
Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Annunciation Square with live Irish music, food, drinks, and more on Friday, March 17th at 1 pm. Proceeds from the Irish Channel Block Party benefit St. Micheals Special School.
Downtown Irish Club Parade
Friday, March 17th at 6 pm. The parades start at the corner of Burgundy and Piety, goes across Royal St. to Decatur Street up Canal Street, and ends on Bourbon Street. The parade makes pit stops along the way!
Finn McCool’s Irish Pub
Finn MacCool’s (3701 Banks Street) is always a great place to spend St. Patrick’s Day with a block party, Irish Stew, Irish dancing, and live music!
