One of our favorite Halloween traditions is to visit Mrs. Heather’s Pumpkin Patch, located on the Northshore in Hammond, Louisiana. The Northshore in Hammond, Louisiana, is about one hour outside of New Orleans and Baton Rouge. Mrs. Heatther’s Pumpkin Patch and Strawberry Patch are great field trip and day trip destinations.
We normally go on a weekend, which means Mrs. Heather’s Pumpkin Patch is usually crowded. However, there is so much space and tons of things to do that it doesn’t feel that way!

Here are five things you need to know about your visit to Mrs. Heather’s Pumpkin Patch.
Swings
Mrs. Heathers Pumpkin Patch has added a bunch of swings to the play areas. So now there is plenty to share without much fuss. They have tire horse swings to swing on, and old barrels with saddles on them make it kind of feel like riding a horse. They also have normal swings for the kids not ready to adventure out.
Hay Maze
The hay maze is lots of fun. My kids loved leading us around the worn-down areas to find our way out. Unfortunately, the maze isn’t great for strollers or wagons. I suggest just parking them outside the maze and just grabbing your wallet or bag.
Characters
Usually, they will try to have characters out a few at a time. However, if your child is anything like mine and is extremely afraid of the characters, you can still go as they generally keep the characters in one area. A few of the characters they had while we were there were Elsa, Anna, Minnie, Mickey, Daisy, Donald, and Elmo.
Pumpkins and Other Activities
I love that you can take your kids to weigh and measure your pumpkin to see how big or small it is. Also, from time to time, you can catch Mrs. Heather telling how a pumpkin grows, which is great for school-aged children to learn. Then after you weigh, measure and learn how pumpkins grow, you can bring your kids to paint their pumpkins. Pumpkin painting is only available on weekends.
Other activities included with your admission are face painting, tunnel slides, zip line, jumping pillow, nature trail, duck racing, see cotton growing, milk a cow, and more.
What to Bring To Mrs. Heather’s Pumpkin Patch
Make sure you wear sunscreen, and bring tons of drinks for hydration (although they do sell water for $1), cash (as it is a fee for using credit cards), a stroller/wagon (for tired kids and/ or pumpkins), wear close toe shoes and try to go early morning (so it’s not so hot).
There are picnic tables available so that you can back your own lunches for a picnic lunch in the cutest pumpkin patch on the Northshore.
Mrs. Heather’s Pumpkin Patch will be open from September 23rd through November 8th. Hours are Monday-Friday from 9 am-5 pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 10 am-5 pm. Children ages newborn and up are $10 (cash only) and includes a pumpkin and all the activities. Adults are FREE with a child.
