One of our favorite attractions in Pensacola is the National Naval Aviation Museum There is so much to see and do here, from flight simulators, to learning about the rich history of our country, naval aviation history and more. One of the best things about the museum for parents of little ones is the indoor playground inside the museum.
National Naval Aviation Museum Playground Location
The playground is located inside the Naval Aviation Museum on NAS Pensacola next to the gift shop. To enter you have to go through the back gate of the Naval Air Station which is located off of Blue Angel Parkway and they will direct you to the museum.
National Naval Aviation Museum Playground Features
Shaped like an aircraft carrier the playground offers small children the chance to climb, slide and explore. They can pretend they are sailors at sea or pilots ready to take off. There are also tables with DUPLO blocks, a little playhouse and and more for kids to set their imaginations free and play! Did I mention there is also a plane children can climb into and pretend to be flying? Because there is and that seems to be my kids’ favorite part of the playground.
Don’t worry parents, there are plenty of seats for you to sit while watching your little one play.
What to Bring To The National Naval Aviation Museum Playground
The most important thing to bring is your ID. Everyone over the age of 16 entering the Naval Air Station and the National Naval Aviation Museum must have a valid ID that will be checked at the gate and at the museum. Non-US Citizens must have a valid passport. You will also be subjected to bag checks upon entering the museum.
Attractions Close By The National Naval Aviation Museum Playground
Well of course there is the museum itself. Admission is FREE to the museum and playground and it is open daily from 9 am – 5 pm. You can spend all day exploring the museums exhibits, the aircraft displayed both inside and outside the museum and learn about the history of naval aviation. There are also flight line trolley tours , which are free of charge each day. On most Tuesdays and Wednesdays from March – November you can watch the Blue Angels practice.
Also close by for exploring are the Pensacola Lighthouse and Fort Barrancas. Just down Gulf Beach Hwy is Perdido Kids Park and Big Lagoon State Park. About 15-20 minutes from the museum are the beautiful beaches of Perdido Key and Johnson’s Beach inside Gulf Islands National Seashore.
Have fun with your little aviators exploring the museum and playing on the playground. If you need some thing else for them to explore, check out Aviation Discovery Park.
